Anablepsis

A Part

By The Eudemian

That which contributes to the whole but is not identical to it.

For example, the wheels of a car contribute to the whole car as what it is comprised of; whereas, a car is not a part of a car because it is identical to the whole which is comprised.

This also applies to all metaphysical parts—not just material parts. E.g., the apple was a part of my dream I had; the words are part of the sentence; the tree’s form is a part of its existence; the frequency is a part of a wave; etc.

Contrast with a relation.
