The Relation Between Love and Existence

By The Eudemian

As alluded to in “Classical Theism”, to love is to will the good of an entity for its own sake. Goodness, however, is the unity of essence and esse: therefore, to will the good of an entity is to will the reality of that entity by giving that essence as much existence as possible.

Consequenlty, when God loves His creation, He is giving actively His creation existence to sustain it and willing the totality of the ordering of creation towards Himself as the standard of fully realized existence. Existence and goodness are identical.
